    geoff and jewels V8 MK1

as some may know we have had a project that has been on the back burner for many many years now

    63 2 door deluxe

during some discussion late last year we have decided to re-commence and restart this project

we have gone with a rack but keeping it rear steer

we will try to minimize firewall mods as much as we can

i will upload piccys as soon as we have something tangable to look at

    yea
so its gunna be a big build

many things have to be considered for this reason

we always were going to use the steer box as the original engineer wanted that
but, this engineer and his superior required a rack

    heater you bet , al
    firewall will look standard
    except the tunnel will look
    a bit larger.(ive started the
    rackconversion and is comming
    along nicely. the crossmember
is a work of art with the rack
    mounts being grafted into the
    rear of the original crossmember
should look like a factory item
    but not as rough ....

Well Geffro, if Jewels says its nice, it must be! Photo's please. In fact, this thread needs photo's of the car in question or it is pretty much useless.

I figured you wanted to retain the heater but there isn't too many V8 conversions that have. That green 2 door one in the UK springs to mind though.

Objective/subjective Jewels??? Not that I'm pedantic or anything...

some pics soon as i can...stand bye
    as for the rack
it is a centre steering rack

the steering arms come from the centre

this will enable factory geometry not to change from factory specs

these racks a commonly used in australia for rack conversions because of this feature

    RSS the ford component place
and blacks racks the holden place

the top of the firewall should remain factory including heater/fan box
there will be changes made to the tunnel tho

will appear factory if all goes to plan

    update

im sorry i havent mentioned what car the rack is from as

made by australian company kirby bishop

and fitted to i daewoo cielo yea i know thats why

anyways here you can see how it mounts and works the existing steering

arms which are the same factory distance apart on the old drag link

distance is also the same from rear of cross member to mounting wholes

we have to fit a 'tapered boss' on each side so the tie rod (track rods) fit

    as normal

    Work of art...

I'm pretty happy with the look of that. Well done.

So to finish off, some bosses for the tie rod ends and to rig up the steering shaft?

Dumb question of the day here......how the hell do you change those rack boots with disassembling all of your steering?

    benny
you would have to remove the centre mount bolts
plus the mount on one end (non steer column end)

so 4 bolts still some fiddling round

but we will make sure the boot is in good nic or new before final assembly

    zombie,
no there will be no tubs just a squaring up of the tub

will run with leaf springs and a 'cal-track' type of setup
