Hi all, can anyone advise if the engine mounts that suit a 1500 Pre Xflow in a Mk1 Cortie will suit a 1600 Xflow in a Mk2 Cortie.

Any advice greatly received.

Cheers

Doug

the 1600 block is about 12mm wider on the exhaust side mounting lugs, thats why two sizes of mounting rubbers used in some( escort) kits 35mm and 50mm --(the pre xflow blocks are all same width --1200 and 1500 )--its possible to wedge it in on the pre xflow mounts--removing the two spot- welded plates/spacers on the x-member support towers--will give some extra room and elogating the bolt holes on it.DONE this before and i think its a bit of a bodge-the rubbers are not the best ford ever made/designed many replacements are also a bit suspect-so they usually start to tear away from the bonded surfaces after couple of months----if u can weld or some can for u--section back the one mount--they will last longer---unless like my engine at the time , a leaky old 1300 xflow , and oil every where--- contaminated my new mounts --they turned to jelly.

had a problem with engine mounts about ten years ago, I'd been going through the things at about one every six months and got tired of it. Edgar down at Fjordfour put me onto a reinforcing cup that Ford put into Escort vans I believe. The rubber sits inside the cup and it reduces the free length of rubber between the block and the mount by about half. Haven't replaced an engine mounting since.
