Does anyone know where they are? Over the years I have been lucky to have owned several GT’s as well as have close contact with a couple owned by a mate of mine in BoxHill. I’m hoping that someone on this forum will perhaps know where they are now. All were Melbourne based during our time with them. I’ll start with my friends cars:-

65 GT – white with black trim (UK spec trim)
I remember this car fondly as I did a lot of driver training in it when practicing for my license in the 80’s. It was also my first experience of a tuned GT. It was white, had the UK spec black trim, was lowered on 6” steel wheels, had a tuned 1500 with 105E head and a 2.9:1 gearbox. It went really well. It was sold to a guy called Martin who lived in Blackburn. He apparently left the car with a friend whilst travelling overseas and that’s the last we know of it.

65/66 GT – Sultan maroon with black/grey trim
Purchased as a solid original car by my mate in BoxHill and then restored. Featured a tuned 1500 with 38/38 Weber. Mostly standard GT for the rest of the car. It is very identifiable as it had driving lights fitted into the grille. IE – holes cut in the grille for the lights. Sold to someone who tried to argue with a tram. Apparently written off. That’s the last we know of it. Any remains?

And my past cars:-

65 GT – Monza red with black trim
This car was originally silver blue with blue trim. This was one of the first GT’s I bought – approx 1990. Found in a sad but complete state in Heidelberg. I rebuilt the car with at the time my developing auto skills. Resprayed it red and changed the trim to black. I sold it a friend who developed it further. He fitted a 2.9:1 gearbox, 1700cc engine with single sidedraught. It was then well used and ended up a little run down and off the road. Sold many years later to another friend west of Melbourne who stripped it of the engine and gearbox. The rest was then sold on to……………..

66 GT – Ivy green with Palamino trim.
I purchased this off my BoxHill friend. Basically a standard GT but fitted with 6” steel wheels and a 3.5:1 diff. The paint was pretty tired as was the carpet. I sold the car to a couple in Ivanhoe who repainted it amongst other improvements. They used this car and another green GT I had as their wedding cars. Where is it now…..

65 GT – Ivy green with Palamino trim
Probably one of the best GT’s I’ve had or ever seen with matching numbers etc…. I purchased this car from Geelong in the early nineties. Very original and never restored. It had been subject to some sympathetic restoration and some really good improvements. The engine was bored and stroked to 1760cc with ported head a GT cam. It was fantastic. Gearbox was 2.9:1. Other features were driving lights, minlite wheels, lambswool seat covers, MK2 GT steering wheel. I sold it to a guy in Mooroolbark who developed it further. Fitted Superlites, lowered it, fitted a sidedraught carb and then used it in regularities. It had “Fred” written on the side at the time. I believe that it is now owned by someone west of Melbourne who found it in a barn in SA. Such a shame for such a nice car. As I said, this car was great - smooth, quiet, a great performer.

The white GT in the last photo is one I still have purchased in 1988.
I've scanned some old photos that may help to jog the memory.
