Brake Caliper Question

Hi all, another question from the Newbie....Can someone enlighten me as to the differences between all the brake calipers...ie P14, P16, M16 etc....what was on what car and what will fit the Mk 1 Cortina.

I take it the M16 are of the Escorts?

Will the standard brake calipers off a Mk 2 Escort fit onto the strut assembly of a 1966 Mk1 Cortina without too much mucking around ? ?

i recently put m16 calipers off an escort onto my mk2 because the escort are metric you need to get bolts which have an imperial thread but a wider body for attaching to the strut i bought a triumph tr6 (i think) caliper bolts from a company in the uk these bolts have the wider body for the metric hole and an imperial thread other people say they shim the hole to fix this too.
