here is a couple of prominant drags cars seen at Calder park and Heathcote many years ago back in the 80s

Geoff Paton in his LS-7454 big block powered MK1
this car ran mid to low 9s

The next car Wayne Topp sometimes called 'mello yellow'

again a big block powered car which also ran then the very new type of carby called a 'predator' which looked like a square box :)

Later sold and repainted pastal pink with rego plates 'zarn'

This car image up first is from the 1970 Nationals at Surfers in QLD

This known as the joe pirotta and charlie caruana car

at surfers it was in more 'tamer' trim than what it was fitted with much later in its life

Here it ran in 'Gas Eliminator' through it away with a red light In those days ran in the high to mid 11 second zone with a small block ford back in 1970 !

the second picture is how it developed 10 or so years on into a blown alcohol burning big block ford overhead cammer!

running in the mid 8s @ over 160 mph!

i believe the car is still around and has yet gone through another development stage... but i have no info...yet

this photo taken at the Victorian hot rod show

Thanks for posting those Jewels, The reason I originally bought a MK1 was to go drag racing...(never happened)

Anyways 'Satisfaction' to this day is THE best sounding Doorslammer I ever heard!

I remember seeing Pattons car run bumper dragging 9.30's and mellow yellow was super tough too. Patons car ended up in canberra w/ a blown 454...

Dont forget the Street Cleaner that ran 10's all day back in the mid 80's...

Oh and the plates on the pink 429 repowered 4dr were ZARN.... ;)

BTW Jewels, next time u see Ian Virgo, get him to drag out his copy of the oz hot rodding mag from the 60's with the Ron Hodgson 64 2dr GT (his 64 bathurst car) that ended up w/ a 260 windsor and a Fiat 4spd....

Yes the street cleaner ...Man I remember how tough that car was...Wasn't it painted white later on? I remember when it met it's demise with the guardrail at calder maybe in 89 or so... I heard that drago now has a street driven 69 camaro with a pump gas 700 inch rat motor....

What about Slubbers pink 63 2dr that went bottom 10's w/ a nitrous'd clevo about the early 90's...that car disappeared too.... He ended up w/ that silver RX-4 with the 400 chev that was the old manuel galea car.

Does that cobalt blue 240 still run that was a C/Gas car a while back? (big wheelstander)..used to love that thing...

I also remember the maroon 220 full tube car (i think it was on eGay recently) with clevo and a top loader, big tubs. I remember that guy side stepping the clutch on Northborne Ave. in canberra at the summernats one year and leaving blacktracks for 150m or so...... (In an impromptu street race w/ another Mk1 corty that had a nitrous'd 265 hemi)

zombie will be more accurate

but mid to low 11s was what satisfaction was doing in the 70s

zombie289
4th February 2009, 04:24 PM
I believe Satisfaction went 10.90 odd best in the 302 guise...8.6 maybe at 176 sounds about the number for the AA/GAS blown cammer combo

This was found on another site. It was taken from a thread discussing the possibility of Adelaide getting a drag strip soon, so one can only vaguely assume it was a SA car? No other details.

my dragracing historian tell's me that the car raced out of melbourne in the early 70's, it started as a street car in light metallic blue and ended up as in the photo. it was in featured in a early 70's mag, the car was sponsored by the owner's wife who was a hairdresser ( carolyn ) thats all he can think of at the moment. the photo was at A.I.R .
more info when he find's it.

A radiator repair business in Acasia Ridge? Brisbane in the late 80's or early 90's had a matt black Mk1 with I believe a 460 in it. Unsure of a name but I seem to recall 9's as a 1/4 time. after the car was to twisted to keep all 4 wheels on the ground when standstill, the motor etc was transferred into a street regoed matt black XD ute. Anyone know about this one?
