although i havnt owned a Cortina GT mk 1 for over 30 years i have got a couple of Royal Enfield Continental GTs,a 65 and 66.i would love a mk 1 GT from the same year, preferably a red two door as i think it would look great next to one of my little red cafe racer 250cc bikes.are any of us also into classic bikes?

I don't own any classic bikes but I have restored a few vintage Bultacos for a good friend of mine. We are in the process of doing up a mid-60s Ducati single cafe racer now.

Yep, love the old bikes. Like Pimtina, I have not currently got one, but one day, when skills permit, I'll build a Triton cafe racer. A Norton Atlas would be a good thing in the mean time.

I have got a project bike. (I have tooo many projects !)
Having grown up in a family that was always traveling to races all across Australia (both road and off road), the bug for bikes has woked its way into me.
My interest is mostly off road, as a result my project is a 1977 Kawasaki kx125 motocross bike. Not too sure if you would call that a classic or not?
My Dad used to mechanic for the late Greg Hansford, so I have a soft spot for the H2R Kawasaki.

Hmmmm, the memorys....

A KX125! That's pretty funny knowing your stature! :)

I would have been much like you growing up then. Visited just about every track in Vic growing up watching both on and off road racing. Got a soft spot for the early Duke Superbikes myself, 851's , 888's, there was nothing like the sound of a bunch of them screaming down into Turn 1 at Philip Is. Almost classics themselves these days...

Also big bore two stroke dirt bikes. :) Nothing like the sound of a 2 stroke motor on full throttle...

Going to try and make it to Winton this year for the historic races in May. Apparently lots of old bikes there.

I would be disadvantaged if I raced it. :)

Dad was woking for Kawasaki way back then, he spent a lot of years working with Trevor Williams. The 125 that I have is a pre-production bike, it was the first bike that Kawasaki gave to Trevor.
I understand the big bore 2 smokers, they sound great. I can remember standing behind the start line at Broardford for one of the Mr Motocross rounds, the smell, she sight, the sound.... and the mud.
Trevor still has his works GP 500 from 1980, Anthony Gunter still has his GP as well, but his got damaged in a workshop fire in the early 90's, but it's virtually finished as a complete resto now.

I also like the sound of the big bore thumpers from more recent times. I raced the thumpernats for 8 years, back before there was a limit of 450cc's in the open class.
We (dad Trevor and I) built race bikes from KLX650's, by the end they were 700cc weapons, probably the fastest thing out there in a straight line, but they handled like tanks. We spent longer on the KLX 250/300 bikes, we even got to the point of experimenting with EFI on one in 1999.

We spent a bit of time with the TKA road race team as well, usually helping out at the long distance races at Philip Island, winton and others.
Nevil Doyle still has some of the old H2R racers, he is restoring them and selling them as his retirement fund.

Hi all, here is a pic of my 1953 Norton Dominator. I sold it a couple of years ago to finish off an Escort race car which has since been sold to fund the Mk 1 Cortina build. Was a great bike, glorious to ride, Kickstart was the only way to start it, 500cc twin, no key, magneto...from a simpler time..cheers Doug6591
