Are modifications to the firewall, other than rust repairs, in any way legal in Victoria?

Im not looking at modifying a firewall on a car at all, but this seems to be one of the most common topics that people get confused by so I thought I'd get it out of the way first.

Also very interested in ramifications of cutting firewalls.

Years ago I saw a magazine article with an Anglia that had a Holden six fitted and it was road registered. There is no way this could have been done without some firewall mods so I suppose its possible. Thinking of doing a similar thing and I want to know is it an option (in Victoria) or is it just going to cause far too many headaches?

Thanks Jewels.

Nice to be a part of such a great site. I have followed it for years and watched it get better and better!

Its a pity that firewall mods are not allowed.

I often thought that a six would be a good option in a Mk1 if you could get it in with reworking the firewall: when I say firewall mods I mean properly structurally reboxing any cavity.

I notice the rotary conversion pictures on your site had a big part of the tunnel removed. Does this also mean tunnel mods are out? Can a rotary be fitted without cutting the tunnel?

Cheers

That rotary is in NZ Bollo. Totally different rules over there.

I think that a rotor can be fitted without cutting the tunnel but have not seen one 'in the flesh'.

So how does one convert a car from LHD to RHD without modifying the firewall nowdays?? (or is that a different kettle of fish)??

most people dont convert they leave them left hook

and with early falcons etc and mustangs they were available here in right hook

left to right conversion is another keetle of fish yes as those companies offering left

to right have already been 'ok' by the authroities to over simplify it dramtically :)

Are you sure early Mustangs were available as right hook? I know conversions are common using Falcon bits but I am not aware of any factory produced RHD cars.
Mine's still left hand drive... and it's surprising how often I go to the wrong door!
