I think there is a market for these Jewels. Bonnets in particular. Again, I'd be keen on a bonnet, price depending...
jewels
11th March 2008, 09:17 AM
i really dont at this stage
but i would be expecting them to be somewhere over $400
they will come with under bonnet bracing like factory with captive nut ready to bolt on
Dr Danger
11th March 2008, 09:21 AM
Hmmm, I guess $400 can get people a lot of panel beating... Is that what your thinking?
jewels
11th March 2008, 09:36 AM
well i dunno al,
what would you pay for a new steel one?
i dont know what other f/g or panels sell for
im guessing thats about the money or maybe cheaper than some of the others who make them
just checked alfa fibreglass they sell hinged bonnets for $435
no boots available
Dr Danger
11th March 2008, 09:44 AM
A new steel one has to be worth every cent of $400 doesn't it?? Where do you get them...? :( And if their not, just wait a couple of years.
$400 sounds a lot but what price for never worrying about rust again?
Depends on fit and everything too I guess. Would they come primered or bare?
jewels
11th March 2008, 09:51 AM
thats right al
its just an alternative
nah they are in gel coat ready to prime
dmulally
11th March 2008, 02:36 PM
Ill be soda blasting all my bonnets and boots in the shed this weekend then sticking them in primer and something on top then hiding them up in the loft for the unforseen.
If any mk1.com'ers need a new bonnet or boot lid send me a pm and Ill lob one over. But thats only if you need one for your proper car.
I was going to keep for spares incase I have a bingle at the track on my 2 door.
Funny thing is that I am pretty sure all four bonnets have different markings on them. One is even from a consul!

Well worth keeping Damo. Just don't tell too many people you have some! :)
I do need an early one at some stage. My 64 wagon (sorry Estate) came sans bonnet and the donor car hasn't got one either... :(

How much of a rush are you for it?
Ill be racing at Phillip Island a couple of times this year if that helps. I could throw it in the back of the bus if you like.
Dr Danger
12th March 2008, 08:55 AM
Not in a rush at all Damo. But keep it in mind. It will just be something I don't have to worry about later on then. Let us know when your comming down.

No worries buddy. The consul one I take it?
I am going to put it in etch this weekend then dry store it. If you want it in hifil or acry hi build primer let me know. Its no big deal for me as I have all sorts of stuff to primer in the next couple of weeks.
Oh, and its yours for nix. I dont drink!

Hahaha. That's why you can play with cars so much Damo! Good stuff.
Yes the Consul one. Etch will be more than fine! :) We can work out appropriate renumeration later.
Cheers, Al

Just for comparison http://www.smithanddeakin.co.uk/F-K.htm in the UK sell the Bonnet with Frame for £151.75 , and the Boot with Frame for £118.50. Its not mentioned on thier website if these price are Inc or Ex VAT.

Hi Al,
I actually got the bonnet out last night and to my surprise it does not need to be blasted at all. It is perfect. Not one spot of rust on it at all. It is dull and would need to be painted but only with normal surface primer or hifil after a quick scuff up with 400 w&d.
The consol badge is spotless too. I am not sure how many different consul emblems there were so I will take a pic for you.
Cheers

Hi Jewels,
Sorry I havent replied,my subsription email notification didnt come through.
I ended up getting hold of a perfect steel bonnet. If f/glass bonnets bootlids can be sourced for around $500 a pair,I could be tempted. The respray is getting closer.
Cheers,
Phil.

G'day jewels, I'm very interested in both a boot and bonnet. Have 2 very poor bonnets and a rust free but average boot lid. I like the idea of rust free panels!
Also while I'm here, can you pls tell me the bore diam. of the dual circuit brake master cylinder you sell. Thanks

Thought id dig this out.
Im trying to find a fibreglass bonnet and boot for my mk2.
Are you getting these through alfa jewels? or do you have another supplier?
The smith and deakin ones look good and are very well priced ...... its the freight thats the killer. Im currently trying to get a price for freight from a private courrier company to see what they can do
Im prepaired to pay $700 for a boot and bonnet but no more!
I only want shells....... no interior
just a bit of general bracing to stop flex........ like so..........

If anyone knows who can help let me know.
I need 2 bonnets one hinged and one a shell with a x brace. Also need a boot shell with x brace.
Have money waiting to go!
