Hey

There have been a lot of debated regarding the brake kits that are on the market and I have been doing a lot of research into them because of the 20V conversion and wanting to stop.....

A lot have recommended Hoppers kit which is $1400 delivered which includes:

Pair 290 mm Disc Rotors and Pair Twin Piston Calipers
Set Semi – Metallic Brake Pads
Pair Conversion hubs made from K1045 Billet steel fitted with
bearing cups and wheel studs
Pair custom Brake Hoses and copper washers
Full Fitting Instructions

You will require a minimum of a 15" wheel and a 1" bore master. I think it also comes with VIC roads check or something (im not in VIC)

There is a kit on EBAY from a store called MR-SPARES which is Ultra Performance Components in VIC also. I have seen these kits go for $700 through to $1400 with bidding wars.
There is a buy it now of $1300 usually on it.

What is included in the kit:

2 x PBR twin piston front calipers
2 x UPC#040, 296mm x 28mm vented rotors
1 x set UPC#1344, front Police spec brake pads
2 x Custom made ADR 7/00 rubber brake hoses. Braided available at extra cost
2 x Cortina adaptor hubs made from K1045 billet steel complete with bearings, seals & studs
High tensile bolts are supplied to fit the kit

I’m not the kind of guy that wants to cut corners to save $100 on brakes and hit myself for not doing it properly. I emailed UPC a few times and there customer service was excellent, they answered all my questions and were happy to send more information if required.

I bit the bullet and decided to bid on one of the kits that started at 99c. I was the winner bidder with about 15 bids also and got the entire kit for $810 with $40 postage to SA.
I received the kit 2 days later and was extremely happy with the quality of all the equipment. It was packed extremely well with bubble wrap.

Some people said that they used old hubs and painted them, the hubs I received were all new as well as all the parts including bolts and hoses.
Here are some pictures of the kit for you all.
I rate this kit highly and didn’t have to pay through the nose to get quality.

If you have any question about sizes or fitting etc just ask.

I didn't have any of the nuts holding the disc onto the hub and when it was laying on the ground it was laying on the side of the disc. I think it would have pulled it away from the calliper a little but will check tomorrow for you.

Here is a hoppers kit. I have uploaded some pics with a minor problem that ive encountered.
Pic 35 shows rotor rubbing on inside of caliper. Pic 36 shows plenty of clearance on the outside and pic17
shows a temp. solution with a washer between the spacer so i dont scratch the rotors until i machine up some new spacers apart from that the kit looks ok.

I've heard that people have to put washers as spacers on the hoppers kit, just one other thing is there seems to be a huge difference between the hub width on these two kits. Would like to know which one is closest to the standard Corty?? otherwise will throw the steering geometry out miles. Project Corty have you got washers on the wheel studs to stop the wheels rubbing on the caliper?

Cheers Paul

Hey Paul
I beleive the boys at hoppers gave me a standard offset hub because they offered me one with an additional 20 mm offset when i ordered them.
Anyway the spacing on the studs is because the tyres im pushing the car around with are rubbing on the coil. 205/65/15. Maybe i shoulda taken the
extra offset hub but im yet to decide on the rims and tyres im using yet and the hoppers boys said the would exchange the hubs for me if i need to.

Where did you get your coilover kit from. I emailed GAZ and they can replace the insert and do a coilover sleeve. I don't really want to pay for postage there and back again.

Sleeves 2" id from kmac , springs are king and inserts are koni from toperformance.
not a cheap exercise. looking at about $1100 just for those items not to mention stripping the
old spring seats off the struts machining the slots in the top hats to suit the strut insert and making
spacers for the bottom of the strut insert so the locking screw clamps the insert down in the strut tube.
unless your pretty handy on a lathe and mill or know someone that can help you out it might pay to get
them done elswhere. Keep in mind that this is a trial and error thing with the ride height and spring
rates.

Hey Mk120V I'm thinking about using these HSD coilover kits, not badly priced and after some research on the net seem a quality set.

Sounds like GAZ shocks is the cheaper way at the moment. I think I was looking around the 150 pounds per strut

Sounds like a good price for the GAZ setup, what do you get for the 150 pounds?
