I am trying to locate a MK 1 Cortina which was built by a friend in the early to mid 80's. The car had a 265 Hemi six pack with triple webbers, 3 speed manual gearbox and a Holden rear end. It was painted in Torana Salamanca Red and was a two door. I believe the car was in Victoria but has possibly been sold and is now in Queensland and is possibly for sale again. My friend who built the car would dearly like to buy the car back again. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I do have some old Poloroid photos of the car which were taken in 80's at Castlereagh Drags.

Thanks in advance.

no bertil,
here in Oz we have very very strict privacy laws

you will not be permitted under any circumstances to know the name or address or phone of any previous owners they will not even pass on your info to ask on your behalf

they only can tell you the year a plate was first used and not much more

you cant even find out other body or vin numbers even if you have the rego plate
they may tell you have many times its changed hands if your lucky...

Tell me about it! My family sold my EH when I was off with the army so I tried to track it down years later and I would sweet talk my way into the RTA girls bed before she would let me know where number plate DEN 038 (sigh) is these days...

Well, here I can send a SMS on my cellphone and get name of the owner and know if the car is street legal. I can also go into Swedish registration office´s website and get all, owners name and adress, VIN of the car, when registered, when last MOT etc etc. This is swedish law and it is called "the priciple of public access to official records".
Guess you guys would have loved to have that...

And if some of you wonders, yes, I find cars using this system. But it is not the best way to say "I got your name from the registration office I know you have a Cortina" then people get averse. Better to say "Hi mate, I met this guy in a red Volvo at the gasstation, he told me you have an old Cortina in the barn"....
