I've been reading up today. Also bid on the mk 1 I looked at yesterday.
I'm cortina stupid so bare with me for a moment or two.
I've searched and looked at all the v8 threads. Thanks to Benny for the photos
he took when he r&r'ed the lump in his. o/t I need to see a 'finished photo' by the way Benny.

How much does one need to massage the firewall to get the weight back towards the rear? And
is this a mandatory move or will the v8 clear without it and the car's just more nose heavy?

Thanks!

Cris

It's not so much that you need to get the weight back to the rear....the back end of my engine only sits about 1" behind where the original firewall was.

The real issue is that you need to give yourself room to install an adequate cooling system, and you need yo give yourself room for the rear sump to drop in over the steering linkage if you are sticking with stock steering. If you are going with R&P steering, and are creative enough with your cooling system, I'm sure you could get it all to fit with few firewall mods.
