i know i am a little slow on these things, but reading the description of this car it is anything other than a lotus replica. outside and interior close, but the engine and suspension work makes it a hotrod nothing more or less. Buggered if I would pay 18 for it!

i think its worth every
cent of 18 grand or so
seeing as a real lotus
cortina sells for 50 k
or more.keep in mind
the ex jim clark cortina
just sold for $230.000
at bonhams auction
last month.

I agree Geoff its a very good example of a Tribute car if you could call it that, hotrod is about as far away from Cortina as anyone could get.
Its a 711m Ba / GT Cortina running gear / Twin webers No twin cam head well you cant blame him for that its near impossible to get one for a start.
If a bit of chrome and polishing screams hotrod gconnell is a tad out of touch im sorry.
Only other thing which would also be bloody hard to get is the correct dash facia and again you cant blame him for that either.
Nice car i think it will sell well.

i doubt there is any reason to shout MK14dr, we are all entitled to our views. Its either a replica or not. Advertised as replica and its obviously not.

Well i got in touch with the guy that owns it and had a chat to him and it did reach $18500 but not the reserve which was not to much more really.
As for the replica thing its simply the same situation as these GTHO guys who all sell their cars as replicas, none have the same engine as a factory car and also most of them are missing the original dash........!!!!
At the end of the day try and build one for that money anyway because thats whould be spent and spent quite easily after the body job plus driveline plus all the other stuff that goes into a build after first purchasing a 2 door to start with.
Maybe if there is a better word to call it other than a replica well let them know i guess and no offence was intended greggy but the car is certainly not a hotrod and will be a joy for someone who wants to own it.
I am sure the poor guy that built it would possibly be offended but.

other than body paint, the mechanical don't even vaguely represent a replica.
A replica- an exact copy of what was originally made, not a paint job and any mechanicals you feel like throwing in it.http://www.cortina-mk1classifieds.com/forum/images/icons/icon13.gif But maybe to the younger ones anything close will do.
Thats like calling jewels car a replica..............not.
but my opinion doesn't matter anywayhttp://www.cortina-mk1classifieds.com/forum/images/icons/icon8.gif it seems to will not comment furtherhttp://www.cortina-mk1classifieds.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Lotus copy / clone / replica or in lotus livery who cares its a great little car which i think is most peoples opinion.
Someone who does not have $50k plus will really enjoy a car like this and actually when i spoke to the owner he told me he had a fello approach him at Christmas time to see if he could look under the bonnet for reference points as he was restoring a Lotus in the ACT.
When he opened the bonnet the guy said oh what happened to the original engine and the owner paused for a second and told him it was obviously not a genuine car, the fello clearly didnt realise.
So there you go i guess he got him and he owns one.........!!!!!!!!!!

I owned this car for the past 6 years and did a heap of development work on it, and it went very well. The chap who bought it was not all that happy with the car, and said it did not have a straight panel on it?
He said he was sorry he paid me so much and that he valued the car at around $12 - $14K. So he re listed it and it made $18.5K. SO MUCH FOR HIS VALUATION!!!!
It was a great car and Geoff knows it, and paid me great compliments when he saw it, THANKS.
It is Ex GEELONG owned by Doug H

Well thats probably enough on the Lotus Replica ,now that we have dredged up the past owners (boy oh boy)
Anyway i guess we should give the guy a chance to sell it and we shall see !!!!
He probably had high expectations of it when he bought it some people are like that when buying cars, which is not all together bad because some large money is payed sometimes.
It was obviously a good car from the feedback from some of you.
