after a request from a member

i have other wiring diagrams i will do later

that are a little different to these

Most useful.

I got some earths to the front indicators that are currently giving me grief. This will help track them down I hope.

yea there is a one little screw in the center on the radiator support panel that is the earth for all of the front lights

it does give trouble if not on clean metal or the 'eye' lugs are not clean also

Best to get yourself a stainless unbrako about 3/16", get rid of the silly little screw and bare the metal under it. There's another earth point up under the dash near the indicator can that will also cause grief if/when it shakes loose!

Ah, so that is an earth point.

Where the flasher can bolts to the support? I might sod that screw off and bolt it through also.

I tightened it and things seemed to work a little better. I also gave that earth point under the rad support a good going over but with no discernible difference. Which suggests I'm chasing multiple bad earths...

Al, they cut corners with the earthing in the Ford looms to (a) reduce cost and (b) reduce weight. Could a simple old electrical engineer suggest that you run a 6mm2 (or bigger) cross section from the battery to the tail lights then to that bloody ridiculous earth point under the dash and run on from there to the one on the radiator support (picking up on the headlight relay on your way). People keep on relying on the body earths and they didn't work all that well forty years ago! When you moved the battery from under the bonnet, did you earth the engine?

Sounds like a good suggestion.

Pretty sure the engine is earthed, but will take another look. The sparky that originally wired the new motor in knows what he's doing.

I got my sparky engineer cousin coming to look at the headlight relays this week sometime. The high beams aren't firing but the low beams are happy as Larry. I have traced it to one (or both) of the relays (one to each headlight), but have no idea how to check for continuity of the relay. All I know is they work fine when I short them across the relays (independently).

Sorted.

Was a bit of a mess. The right hand indicator had about 2 strands of wire to the supply and earth. So I soldered them back on and then did the same to the other side just to make sure then sealed it up best I could. The left front indicator worked almost perfect after that.

The right had side was another matter. But fortunately, I traced it to a loose connector up under the dash where it heads through to the engine bay. Reseated that and all of a sudden the right hand indicator came on line, as did the highbeams and horn...

To ask a really dumb question, why does the right hand indicator power come from the left side of the car and vice versa? Low beam feed from the right of car and highbeam feed from the left? Is there a implicit need for this and the connector on the radiator support, or is it just to complicate things?

Also, both the front indicator light bulbs are quite loose in the sockets and I'm not sure how to best fix that... New bulb holders or something less dramatic?
