Hey Guys,

Bought this little GT plated roadster a couple months ago and have just started work on it now.

It was built here in Adelaide by a guy called Hugo at 2H Automotive in 1998. - he builds about 6 - 8 customised rides a year. He saved it from a wrecking yard where it was at the bottom of a stack of 4 cars.

Its based on a Airflow coupe with a pre airflow front and not sure what model the grill is from - perhaps someone will know?

Many thanks to Jewels for assistance with all the ID'ing.

The Pics are from when i bought it, it had not been driven for about 3 years - thus the ratty appearance. I'm Not doing too much too it, just put on some 13 inch globes, will tidy it up, get the engine going, enjoy it over this summer and then will perhaps consider selling it.

I'll get some more pics of it up before christmas after it has all been cleaned up!

googz,

i think this car was on ebay some time ago...

the grill is from a 220 or sometimes called 'fleet model'
more commonly known here in australia as the 'iron bar grill'

these fronts were used on the very basic model cortina mostly used as fleet cars for the likes of the old PMG etc
not much chrome on the trim and very plain singletone interior trim

in the UK these are very desirable and very few survive..pretty much like here also

i like it coz its different :)

PS: googz if you use the paperclip you can upload images directly from your own pc :)

Hey, like Jewels said, it's good because it's different.

1) Is it plated as a 2 door GT? Or more likely a 4 door I suppose...
2) What is under the hood?

The car is a odd combination of early front end on an airflow car! Has it been braced underneath after the roof was removed?

As far as I can see, the only thing wrong(ish) with this car is the colour scheme. If I see another non-Lotus Cortina in white with a green stripe, I think I'll be physically ill.
But like Bertil recently said, as long as your happy, and as long as it's a Cortina!

yeah its different all right. its had a serious chop which is probably its beast feature. Don't think much of the from bumper arrangement and the dash needs some work, with with a bit of work it could look seriously mean.
A nice engine would probably help too. Like Al said, what is under the bonnet?

Jewels,

Yes the car was on ebay a while ago, it was also in the trading post and through many of the classified sections of the various cortina sites. The previous owner was just asking way too much, I offered him half his asking price and a month later I heard back from him.

I had heard that the grill was from that model in the U.K. but thought that it might have been different here, but either way thanks for clearing that up.

Cheers for the paperclip heads up...!

Dr Danger,

It is plated as a 4 door GT. I guess they are much more common?

Its got all mk2 GT running gear under the hood plus extractors, ported, polished and shaved (not sure how much) head, a lumpy cam and a 4.44 diff.

It has all the bracing hidden under the sill panels. It still has about 12mm flex in it though, do they usually have this much as a sedan? I have heard the anglia's were notorious for this...?

And well, yes - the color comment is a fair call...!

gconnell,

Yeah the chop is what sold it for me. I've seen a few roadsters / convertibles with the standard windscreen and they didn't really do much for me, but this was something different.

Those grills are fairly sought after in the UK Googz. Bring a few $$$. Not so much here though for some reason...

Yep, 4 door GT's are basically the only ones you can get. You could probably count the amount of 2 door GT's in Australia on both hands, (excluding GT500's but someone would get shot if they chopped up a GT500...). So how does that sit with rego over there? I.E. a 2 door car with a 4 door tag? Engineered perhaps?

12mm flex huh. Jewels might know better, but I think that is probably approaching the norm for a Mk1 Cortina? Depending on where the flex is occuring and what is needed to induce the flex of course...

That 4.44 diff is getting toward being a pretty rare thing. If you are just going to tootle around town with the car (which I assume you are) then it's probably a good thing. A 4.1 is cheap if you don't want/need that extra bit of acceleration or want to lower the highway revs a tad.
