Hi Guys,
Have just bought my first MK1 and am stuck with a couple things.
I have looked on the radiator support panel for the body number to cross reference with the ID Tag but can't find it, I have read that its on the passenger side and about a quarter of an inch high, but can anyone tell me EXACTLY where it is located on the rad. support panel?
Also, where is the engine number located? I have found the serial prefix / serial number on the front of the block but cant find the actual engine number.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi googz and welcome :)
on all mk1 cortinas
there is a ID tag mounted on the driver side inner guard (wing) under the bonnet
just above the battery tray
the actual body number or VIN is stamped into the driver side inner guard just near the strut top
this number would start with a number
EG: 118E or 122E or 113E etc
after that number there would be a series of letters like 113E12345
these usually dont follow a straight line either the factory was pretty rough when stamping the bodys so it looks like it curves a bit
as for the number on the radiator support panel yes this number is on the passenger side around 4 to 6 inchs away from the bonnet catch
this number tells you the model type of cortina
depending upon whether the car is an early 63 to 64 will have a number like
EG: 28112 indicating its a 2 door deluxe
if it is a later model 65 to 66 would indicate
EG: CG74 indicating it was a 2 door deluxe also
now as for the engine number it can be found on the top of the drivers side engine mount boss
i have a couple of pics below may help you

Having real issues finding the engine number. It should be: Drivers side, just above where the engine mount bracket connects to the engine. correct?
Jewels, Also just rubbed back the paint on the strut tower to reveal the numbers E43 followed by 4 numbers, but I couldn't find any reference on your ID page about what that represents. Can anyone help?!

The UK pre-aeroflow cars never had the VIN number stamped anywhere.
They had the earlier diamond shaped VIN plate (see below) located next to the bonnet hinge on the drivers side (on a RHD car) , and above this was a separate oval shaped body build tag. This was painted the same colour as the car.
